4/6/10 - M11 Kits: We have fitted a few M11s with kits and they run just as reliably as the M10s. We will begin working our way through the list as soon as we have our magazine perfected.
Magazines: We have approximately 200 magazine bodies back from the laser welder and we are working the bugs out. The 20 and 30 round mags work great. The high cap mags, however, continue to be a bit of a problem. We tested several 40 round mags (in the white) with our local beta testers and it was thumbs up all the way. We then parkerized them and in an effort to save time and reduce costs, we replaced our follower with a Black Dog Machine follower. Before test firing the new follower, we sent them out to beta test volunteers. As soon as we had those practice mags in the mail, we discovered that the Black Dog Machine followers (through no fault of their own) were too small for our spring. The parkerizing also made the inside so rough that the follower would not slide correctly. Our high cap mag that (in the white) would hold 42 rounds were now only allowing 17-20 rounds if you smashed the last rounds into the mag. So, we have modified the followers so that they work with our springs in our mags and sent them out to our volunteers. To avoid the rough interior wall caused by parkerizing, we have set up for bluing the mags to keep a smooth polished finish on the inside. We will be test firing the latest mags this week and are waiting for reports from our volunteers.
01/11/10 - Magazine: We are currently bending the magazine bodies so that they can be sent out to the laser welder. Below is a picture of the unfinished 12" mag bodies w/ an H&K 270 20 round mag in the middle for comparison.

M11 Kits: All of the programming for the parts is completed and we are currently machining the first run of 10 kits. We expect to send these kits out to be coated late next week.
12/2/09 - Magazine: We have located a company that will do the laser welding we need for the back of the magazine bodies. Shipping today, is enough sheet metal to fabricate 200 magazines. We anticipate receiving the materials next week, however we are preparing for vacation (13th-19th) and will probably not start bending up the sheet metal until we get back - Christmas week. After we have them bent, the laser welder speculates a turn around time of 3 weeks. When we have the completed mags inhouse, we will have them beta tested and begin sending them out to those that have already purchased one of our .22 kits.
M11 Kit: We have cut up the material and it is piled everywhere. We are in the process of programming the rest of the pieces that make up the kit. We anticiapte that we'll have some kits ready to be sent out for coating by the end of the month.
We are also working on the hardware for side cocking uppers for the M10 and M11 .22 kits. This hardware will also retro fit any side cocking M10 or M11 upper. The difference between ours and other manufacturers is that ours is spring loaded and the charging handle will always return to the front of the upper on it's own.
10/22/09 - Magazine Update: The picture below shows the results of our dry run for our new tooling. As you can see, we’re displaying 30 and 40 round mags sandwiched between the H&K 20 round mag we are currently selling with our kits and a typical Sten mag. We have not yet testfired these mags but intend to do so in the near future. Our first step was to make sure we could fabricate what we wanted in the way of mag pieces. There are some quirks in the tooling that make reproduction difficult at best and we are working that out now. Next, we will begin beta-testing. We apologize for the delay. We have undergone a few setbacks, design changes, and delays; but we are pushing forward as fast as we can.

M11 Kit update: Because we made a slight design change early in the summer, we resubmitted our M11 Kit to ATF for approval (because they instructed us to do so if we made even the slightest design change.) We have finally received a positive response from ATF and are free to move forward with production of the kit. We will be working on them over the next couple of months and will get them out as soon as we can.
8/17/09 - We have come up with a better way to form the 40 round magazines. Unfortunatley, this requires different tooling. We hope to be doing our bending trials by the end of this week.
7/15/09 - We've uploaded a new instructional video for the M10 .22 conversion kit. This video is for new owners and it demonstrates how to install the kit. For those of you that would like to get a closer look at the unit, this video may be helpful. Click here to view the M10 .22 conversion unit instructional video.
We have also sucessfully created and test fired our own 20 round magazine. Now that we know we can reproduce the magazines we already have, we will lengthen the size of the magazine body and begin beta testing the higher capacity mags. Stay tuned...
7/3/09 - M11 update - We have just uploaded a video on youtube.com demonstrating the M11 22 Kit. Click here to see the video of the Practical Solutions .22LR Conversion Kit. Both of our 22 kits (the M10 and M11) are very similar in design. The beta testing of the M10 kits allowed us to easily make design changes to the M11 kit, as well. We are currently undergoing beta testing for the M11 kit and we expect to begin delivering the units late Summer or early Fall.
7/1/09 - We have contracted with Michael Asid of Oxford Armory to protect the kit's bolt carrier and magazine well adapter with a Moly Resin coating. It has proven to be very durable in our test model. We have several completed kits that are coated and in transit back to us now. Once we get these pieces back in-house we will be making deliveries to the customers for which kits were customized. We are also contacting the next ten names on the list to get specific information regarding their gun so that we can send the proper mag well adapters to Oxford Armory for coating.
We have also finished prototyping all of the tooling for the 40 rounds mags and we have started on the first magazine prototypes. We will begin beta testing within the next couple of weeks.
6/3/09 – We have completed our beta testing for our M10 units and found a reliable supplier for our upper receivers. They are now for sale! We have listed the units for sale on our site however they are showing “out of stock” status so that they cannot be purchased through our online store. We are working our way through the waiting list which is currently approximately 50 names long. If you are not on our list, but would like to be please email us at: sales@practicalpage.com and tell us if you want to be placed on the M10 or M11 list. If you are already on our list, we will contact you via email when it’s your turn.
Now that we have the M10 units working we are turning our “fullspeed” attention to the fabrication and beta testing of the 40 rnd mags and the M11 conversion units. Stay Tuned…
04/25/09 – The SAR East show and our anticipated debut date is less than a week away. Unfortunately, we must say that our project is delayed due to manufacturing hurdles. We had ordered a couple hundred upper receivers from two different manufacturers and they were to be delivered no later than 4/15/09. Believe it or not, both are running behind schedule. We are expecting to be delayed anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks.
We now have functioning magazine well adapters for all caliber and conversion variations, so that our unit will now work for all MAC 10’s regardless of caliber and/or conversion. We have also completed our initial run of beta testing and the results are in! We discovered that because so many different manufacturers were making the MACs back in the day, each maker’s receiver varies slightly. Because of this variation, some of our units may need to be modified to reliably function in your gun. As a result, we will be requiring all purchasers to send us their gun so that we can make sure the unit will work. We are hoping this is only temporary, however, we are committed to only selling functional units and we are unwilling to take the chance of selling a unit that will not work. After all, our reputation is on the line.
We have also officially begun a formal waiting list. This list is comprised of individuals that have sent us an email (from December 2008) notifying us that they want to be on the list. If you have only told us verbally, chances are you are not on our list. To check your status and/or be added to our list, please send us an email at: sales@practicalpage.com .
We will still be at the SAR East show selling our other products and we will have a .22 unit on display. Please come by and check us out!
M11 Status – There is no new update as we are still working on the M10 and we have been preparing for the SAR East show. We still hope to see you there.
03/24/09 - We are still filling bins with parts for the M10/45 .22LR conversion unit. So far we have made a couple of modifications to the conversion unit that will increase reliability. We have included a bolt "stop" above the firing pin that keeps the hardened firing pin from hitting the hardened barrel after the last round is fired and ejected. Another modification is the use of a "booster" to increase backpressure. Since our design is "blowback only" the increase of backpressure by using the booster increases the reliability. Our booster is disguised as a .22LR caliber suppressor but it can be removed from the actual barrel and an actual .22LR caliber suppressor installed, as long as the threads are standard ½ x 28 TPI.
Here are a couple of videos of the unit using 100% production line parts. The first video is burst fire - click here. The second video is of two magazine dumps - click here . We didn't spend too much time with the video camera as the conversion unit was way too much fun and we all wanted trigger time! The magazines are still 20 round steel magazines (Maryland compliant) patterened after the H&K 270. We are working on 40 round steel magazines as well.
We are in the process of having the parts of the units manufactured and are still on track to have them available in time for the SAR East show. At the moment, we have not begun work on alternative grips to accommodate conversions but now that we believe to have all of the bugs worked out of the unit, we will begin design production of the various magazine well adapters.
As for the M11 conversion unit, many of the beta testing and design changes that were incorporated into the M10 unit also will be used for the M11 units. Now that we have the M10 unit running reliably, we are moving closer to turning our sights on the M11 unit.
02/09/09 - We are continuing the production of our beta test kits and we are anticipating the completion of the testing by the end of Febuary. We hope to have the M10 kits available for sale the first part of March. We also plan to have them avaliable for purchase at the SAR East show that will take place May 1-3, 2009. For more info, click here. We hope to see your there!
1/29/09 - Okay, we are well into the New Year and we are now in fact manufacturing parts for the M10 .22 cal Conversion Kits. We are in the process of tooling up and perfecting our programs to turn out the kits in lots of 25. As is the nature of our business, our progress has been slightly delayed due to an influx of recent gun repairs. The first 10 kits of this 25 unit run lot will go out to individuals that have been with us through the years – waiting for this moment. The first 10 will also be our beta-testers (we will hold the additional 15 kits to make sure our betas run smoothly.) We need to make sure our mass produced units will run effectively and accurately for everyone. By sending out the first 10 and then in lots of 25, we can control manufacturing kinks and glitches. Basically, we want to make sure the products we are sending out will work and that you guys will feels as though you've spent your hard earned money wisely!
After the betas are tested and trued, we will start an official waiting list. WE WILL NOT TAKE DEPOSITS OF ANY KIND! It is against our business model to use our customer's money for our research and development for any of our products. We respect each of you too much to hold on to your money for years with only the promise of a product. We will not accept anyone's money without a kit ready to be shipped to you. When we are ready to begin a list, we will let everyone know. Until then, please be patient with us.
As far as the M11 kits are concerned, we hope to begin manufacturing them in late February. Many of the parts are the same except for size. That should give us enough time to get the first lot of M10 kits ready so that we can concentrate our efforts on mass producing the M11 kits.
12/04/2008 – ATF approval letter was sent to us. We will not provide the entire verbiage from the ATF letter because it contains proprietary information; however below is the important part:
“...To complete the present evaluation, FTB installed your kit into an open-bolt, “semi-auto” MAC-10 type firearm and test fired it. The kit did not defeat the semi-auto trip and did not cause automatic fire in the SEMI selector position. Therefore, we find that the submitted .22LR caliber conversion kit for MAC-10 type, open-bolt firearms is not regulated under the GCA or the NFA.”
This is great news for the entire MAC world!
